Associate Head of Finance – Europe P&C
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance – P&C, the Associate Head of Finance will lead, direct and manage the Company’s Finance functions across its European insurance entities. This is a senior leadership position that requires deep knowledge of insurance accounting, strong regulatory expertise, and a keen commercial mindset to support profitable growth and ensure financial integrity across jurisdictions.
Core responsibilities
- Lead all financial operations for the European insurance businesses, ensuring alignment with group strategy and financial objectives.
- Act as a key business partner to the Regional MD, providing financial insight to guide decision-making and business development.
- Develop and execute the financial strategy for the region, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Ensure full compliance with local regulatory and solvency frameworks in Gibraltar and Malta (e.g., GFSC, MFSA, Solvency II).
- Serve as the primary liaison for financial regulatory matters with local authorities and external auditors.
- Oversee the production and submission of all regulatory and statutory financial reporting, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Manage the regional finance team and ensure effective financial control frameworks are in place and maintained.
- Lead the review of management accounts, board reports, and track business KPIs.
- Oversee treasury, investment accounting, and capital management activities within both jurisdictions.
- Provide authoritative guidance on insurance-specific financial matters, including reserving, reinsurance accounting, and premium recognition.
- Collaborate with actuaries on reserving and capital modelling assumptions.
- Build and mentor high-performing finance teams across Gibraltar and Malta, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.
- Promote knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and professional development within the finance function
Qualifications and experience required
- Professional accounting designation
- A minimum of ten years post qualification experience in Accounting or Finance within the insurance industry
- In depth knowledge of relevant accounting standards (IFRS and/or US GAAP) and Gibraltar/Malta reporting requirements
- Proven team player with a strong track record of working effectively in a professional team environment to meet tight deadlines
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships, and drive change, across diverse cultures
- Proven experience in process reengineering, best practices and control optimization and working with emerging technology
- Proficiency in financial software and systems, with advanced Excel skills
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), which includes the ability to create strong relationships and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with roles across the organisation, including the Executive
- Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting board level documentation
- Excellent analysis and decision-making skills with the ability to identify and implement solutions
